The Behavioral Health Executive Council (BHEC) of Texas no longer pre-evaluates or pre-approves continuing education providers or hours. In the state of Texas, the guidelines for CEU providers are found in the consolidated rulebooks issued by BHEC. You can find those rulebooks here.

After we become profitable, we plan to become an official National Association of Social Workers approved provider so we can reach more people! If you're curious (and we know you are!), you can peek at their guidelines here. We’re already following their guidelines as closely as possible to make it a seamless transition.

According to BHEC rules, Texas licensees may earn 50% of their CEUs from Curious Therapist. In the next year, you will be able to earn 100% of your CEUs from Curious Therapist. Join our mailing list and we will let you know when that happens!

Social Workers

Professional Counselors

We develop courses based on books, podcasts and articles that: a) are relevant to our profession; b) are accessible (i.e., you can purchase the content easily); c) are well reviewed/regarded within our community; and d) fall within the expertise of our course contributors. Courses are priced based on the number of CEUs provided. As of October 2023, each CEU is $5, with the exception of particularly complex topics, which are $7 per CEU. From time to time, Curious Therapist may run promotions that offer discounted rates.

For books and articles, 10,000 words = 1 CEU. For podcasts, a 60-minute podcast = 1 CEU. This is consistent with the National Association of Social Workers guidelines.

As an example, a book with 80,000 words would be worth 8 CEUs. A book with 55,000 words would offer 5.5 CEUs.

Post-tests include at least ten multiple choice questions for the first credit hour, and at least five multiple choice test questions for each additional credit hour. This is consistent with the National Association of Social Workers guidelines.

For example, the test for the book worth 8 CEUs would need to include 45 questions, while the test for the book that would earn 5.5 CEUs would need to include 35 questions.

In order to receive credit, you need to have read the book or article, or listened to the podcast, during your current license renewal period. For example, if you renewed your license in March 2022 and your next renewal is due in March 2024, as long as you’ve read it between April 2022 and March 2024, you can take and receive credit for one of our courses.

You must score 80% or higher on the exam to receive a certificate of completion. We follow the guidelines established by the National Association of Social Workers.
